Overview[]
Vlandian Sergeants are the fifth-tier troops of Vlandia.
Sergeants are formidable heavy infantry. Their body armor is as good as that of Banner Knights. Their tabard over mail, combined with their imperial capes, provide almost the same body armor points as the Banner Knights' coat of plates and green hood. Sergeants are also equipped with shields which make them difficult for archers to kill, if they form a shield wall. This can be advantageous for Sergeants if they are advancing into enemy lines. Sergeants also use spears to stop charging cavalry. Their maces' blunt damage make them useful in taking down heavily armored enemies. It is advised to use Sergeants to protect archers and crossbowmen who are easy targets for melee cavalry. If enemy cavalry reaches archer lines, the player can counter-charge them with Sergeants.
Nonetheless, in field battles, sergeants are vulnerable to enemy flanking maneuvers. Enemies can flank shield infantry by using horse archers or feigning cavalry charges. This can confuse the Sergeants into shielding the wrong direction. They will then be exposed to archer fire.
