The Llyn Tywal, or "Dark Lake", lies at the center of the Uchalion Plateau. On the western coast rises the Rock of Glanys where the ancient high kings of Battania were crowned.[1] Hills surround the still waters covered in dense forests of oak, beech, and yew.[2]
The only outlet of the waters is through a rocky cataract near the village of Swenryn[3] and flowing down from the Fiur River into the Bay of Varcheg.[4]
The lake plays an important role in prosperity of locals. Villagers in Mag Arba harvest flax grown in boggy dales along the water[5] and the people of Dalmengus[6] and Lindorn[7] are able to keep their fields well-watered thanks to the lake.
Lore[]
According to legend, the lake was named after an ancient Battanian queen who married five high kings in succession, bestowing sovereignty on each one.[8]
