Reginhard as an adventurer
Heroes (known as Companions in-game) in Viking Conquest are characters with unique backstories, names, skills and attributes. Depending on the circumstances, the player can hire a hero for free, by completing a quest, or payment.
If one has chosen to play the storyline, some heroes will join the player's party while progressing through the story, while others must still be purchased.
Unlike in other modules, disgruntled heroes with which you have insufficient relationship may choose to strike it on their own as adventurers. Once they become adventurers, they will never be able to join player's party again, becoming mercenaries and eventually lords.

Heroes (Companions) Interactions[]
- Equipment
Using "Let me see your equipment" line from the dialogue, like in other modules, you can see and modify the items that a companion uses.
- Skills
Using "What can you tell me about your skills" line from the dialogue, like in other modules, you can see and assign a companion's current skills.
- Departure
Using "We need to separate for a while" line from the dialogue, like in other modules, they will leave your party and settle in a random Mead Hall.
- Improve Relation
Using "(Give warrior rings and bracelets valued at 3000 penningas)", you will improve your relationship with the companion (generally +4).
From the dialogue you can normally only see the morale, if you want to check on the relation, you need to go to Character tab and then Companions - View Companions (from which you can also see a breakdown of each companion status, morale and morale factors).
- Story
Using "I'd like to ask you something" and then "Tell me your story again" you will trigger the companion to tell you again their story/lore.
- One-time Right to Rule Gathering
Using "I'd like to ask you something" and then "I suppose you know that I aspire to be the king of this land" will trigger a dialogue with the companion after which they depart your party in order to help you raise your right to rule to +3(?) upon their return.
This is possible only once per hero.
- Gathering Intel on other Kingdoms
Using "I'd like to ask you something" and then "Do you have any connections that we can use to our advantage?" will trigger a dialogue with the companion after which they depart you party in order to obtain information on a specific fixed town and consequently the current owner of that town.
For example, Solveig on Tunsberg (and if Tunsberg is still part of Northvegr, it will gain intel on Northvegr), Brunhild on Dorestad (and if Dorestad is still part of Friese then you will gain intel on Friese), etc.
The Intel is regarding the percentage of lords that are currently disgruntled.
- Improving Relations with Settlements
Using "I'd like to ask you something" and then "I would like to improve the relation with a settlement", will yeald a useful outcome only when, after establishing your own kingdom, you will have Castles or Towns with which you have negative reputation. The missions takes 10 days to complete after which the companion will automatically return to your party. It will improve your reputation with the location with ?.
- Turning Companions into Lords
Using "I'd like to ask you something" and then "Would you be interested in holding a fief?" will trigger a dialogue with all the available fiefs (unassigned or fiefs that you hold personally) and once assigned, effectively will turn the companion into a lord.
