Please help! When the enemies get to close to my archers, they tend to pull out their swords or close-ranged weapons. After their done with the first wave of enemies, a second wave appears. How do I get my archers to pull back thier bows? I've tried the "Fire any weapon at will" command but they don't use thier bows again. Thanks for any help.
- Is this classic Mount&Blade or Warband? If it is the original game, it's a bit tough, you pretty much have to hold all of your troops back until the enemy is on top of you, then hope for the best when your archers pull out their swords. If all you have are archers, you can order them to pull away from the enemy, once they are out of melee range, they will switch back to their bows. In Warband, just command your archer class to hold position behind the clashing lines. ◄► Tephra ◄► 04:49, April 8, 2012 (UTC)
- my standard solution for archer units is to give a hold position command, generally i give a all units hold command and let the melee units in the line sort themselves out. If i were a clever/nimble commander I'd order my archers to hold in one position and advance the melee units forward and to the right. this should let the archers to fire into the exposed sides of enemies trying to engage the melee units. archers in general will try to melee nearby enemies so keep them separated, if you give no commands troops tend to advance into melee.
