Overview[]
Vlandian Banner Knights are sixth-tier troops of Vlandia.
They are very similar to the Empire's Imperial Elite Cataphract in strength. Comparatively, the Banner Knight is less armored than the Elite Cataphracts in terms of body and horse armor. However, they have slightly better one-handed skill and cheaper wages. Different from the Cataphracts, the Banner Knights use shields when they use their lances, which makes them slightly less vulnerable to archer fire. Still, the Banner Knights' heavy armor, their speed in charging and their lances make them very deadly when charging into archers or flanked infantry. A commander can use infantry to engage enemy infantry at the front, keeping the enemy busy, while charging Banner Knights into their flanks and behind.
Common to all cavalry units, their low athletics skill means once they dismount, they run slower than infantry units. This also means they are less able to escape archer fire if they are dismounted, or their horses are shot and killed by archers on the battlefield. It is unlikely for them to outrun enemy infantry units if they are dismounted at enemy lines.
