The Karakhergit are a Khuzait minor faction that keeps to the old ways of the Khuzait (raiding, pillaging and small clans).[1]
Official Description[]
"The Karakhergit are a nomadic clan that has resisted all efforts by the centralizing Urkhunid khans to keep them in one place, give them farmlands and serfs, and force them to give over taxes and military levies. They are treated by the other clans with a combination of envy and contempt. They trade and sometimes even intermarry with their settled brethren, but they also do a limited amount of kidnapping for ransom and raiding of flocks, and scoff at those who would blame them for carrying on with the heroic old ways."
In the Digital Companion[]
The imperial scribe Asaios met the Karakhergit woman Atun during his trip from Baltakhand to Odokh. He traveled with her tribe, learning about their ways. According to him, the Karakhergit spend the warm summers in the north, on the higher mountain slopes, where the grass is thick and lush. In the winter, they migrate south towards the grazing grounds there. Both Karakhergit men and women participate in herding of sheep and horses, moving them between pastures. Accordingly, many young Karakhergit women carry a bow, sabre, and lasso.
According to Atun, in the old days, when many more steppe tribes were nomadic, it was a lot easier for Karakhergits to find husbands and wives, but nowadays few settled steppe peoples are willing to send their children to live the hard life on the grasslands. Likewise, back in the day a Karakhergit maiden would not marry a man until he had slain his first enemy, but now they are willing to settle for a man who's at least injured someone. This is not without problems, however, as such marriages can be rocky, with men becoming quarrelsome and turning to drinking if their wives were more accomplished in this regard. All of this results in dwindling numbers that make it difficult to prevent cattle from wandering into the ever-expanding farmland, causing unnecessary conflicts with farmers.
Aside from herding cattle and raiding, Karakhergit engage in trading. To this end they use an argot consisting of Khuzait, Imperial, Darshi, and extensive hand gesturing.
In terms of food, they rely on meat, mainly mutton and horse that they cut into chunks and cook over open coals. Bread, when available, is dipped in sheep fat. They also adopted a dish from the Darshi that consists of salted eggplants soaked in mustard oil. Melon is used as a desert.
When asked about settling down like the other tribes, Atun replied that no eagle should burrow like a rabbit, which is the Karakhegits' general opinion on farming. She also said that Karakhergit pride is insufferable to other Khuzait clans, bringing up an example of how many proud noyans would return from Monchug's wars, laden with expensive loot, only to face the disappointed and pitying looks of skin-clad Karakhergits.

Trivia[]
- During development, the Karakhergit were temporarily renamed Karakhuzaits.
- In older versions of Mount&Blade Classic and Warband, there were two cut bandit-type units - Black Khergit Horseman and Black Khergit Guard - which were also sometimes called Karakhergit. Given the fact that 'kara' means 'black' in Turkish, it's highly likely that the Black Khergits from Classic and Warband were repurposed for Bannerlord, and in-universe have continually existed as a faction well into Warband's period, even if they were ultimately cut.
- The Karakhergits' lore was slightly expanded upon in the Bannerlord Digital Companion.
