Zagloba often provides comic relief in the novel. He is overly-talkative, mixing insults and doomsaying with invented tales of his own illustrious past. Despite those traits, he is noble in his loyalty to his friends as well as his bravery--though it sometimes takes extreme circumstances for him to show it.
