The main menu of the Digital Companion

The Digital Companion or the Bannerlord Digital Companion is a piece of software released as DLC by TaleWorlds Entertainment in 2022.

Overview[]

The Digital Companion is an app released digitally on PC, XBox, and Playstation. It includes several categories of content, including:

  • An illustrated and voiced story journal that follows Asoios, a scribe tasked by Istiana with travelling around Calradia and reporting his observations to her.
  • A hand-drawn map of the game world.
  • A selection of concept art and pictures of the development & developers.
  • A selection of the game’s music that can be listened to in-app.

The Digital Companion texts are fully localized to all the languages available in the game.

Release history[]

The Digital Companion's release was announced on December 16, 2022, to celebrate the official launch of Bannerlord. Players that have purchased the game during Early Access received the Digital Companion for free. Everyone else can purchase the Companion on supported platforms either as a standalone DLC, or as part of the Digital Deluxe edition of Bannerlord.

On Steam and GoG, owners are able to select the Companion from within the game’s launcher. On EGS, the Windows Store, and on consoles, it's a separate application in the user's library.

Criticism[]

Several users on the TW forums have criticised the DLC's price - $9.99 /€9.99, on launch - for the amount of content it has to offer. A few people also had issues with the grammar and voice narration of the 'Travels in Calradia' segment. Another group of users criticised TW's decision to release a companion DLC instead of fixing the game's persistent bugs and implementing more RPG mechanics.
